Morning all,
My name’s Linda, Ian’s muse (aka wife) of 10 years. This is my first time adding an entry. I intend to use this space to write about interesting personalities, current events, music and travel. Bear with me as I’m not familiar with blog etiquette just yet! Please feel free to write back.
Linda
Well I am going to help a friend of mine to create a website for a series of stories that he wrote for an event that he runs. He wants to start a community site for all the people that participated in it. I didi some digging and as you knwo I’m into PHP at the momment but that is not how I found GeekLog. I am a Mac fanatic and I go to macosxhints.com all the time and GeekLog is the system they use for their website. End of search.
This system is great we can have members only type info and a bunch of public info too. a Calendar of events Polls you name it it’s there. well for a community site at least. Not to mention that it was an easy install, ny only difficulty was the damn FTP server that my Hosting Company uses or the way that they set it up. I get drop-outs all the time while uploading, it’s a pain.
Anyway later!
Well I just had an excellent weekend acting at my friend’s house. We were participating in an event of my friends making. He had a plan that worked to perfection. From t-shirts to convention type name tags on to Trophies. A suprising mix of wonderful people to meet and to act with.
Wel I suppose that I should tell you what is was. It was a Fantasy Role Play, an event that in the end is simply improvisational acting. We are handed sheets decribing the country that the character lives in and how he/she has participated in it, giving you the sence of what he/she is like and what is his/her over-all modivation. Then there are details of of his/her motivations for the current event he/she is going to participate in. And finally the character’s opinions of the other people that should be in the scene. You have no scripts, no pre written dialog just do and say what you think that you/’the character” would say and do.
I had a great time. Though I was not evil enough for Jeff, another friend far outpaced me on that one.
The latest DRK 4 is released andit looks quite interesting. I look forward to getting it. Some of the CF stuff, namely the XML stuff, looks very usefull.
thanks to Josh Dura for pointing this out.
I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright. I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive. I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish enough “Hello’s” to get you through the final “Good-bye.” He then began to sob and walked away.
As said to me through email. I hate mini-spam that I get from family and I will never respond to it especially through email. But this was a gem so I brake my rule.
I was reading the XML Journal and cam accross an article that intreged me. I like XML and I want to push myself further in it’s use but does that justify learning another language even though it is said to be a simple one. I have my doubts and at the moment I do not have the time, but you never know I might in the future.
The XML Journal article talks about a company called ClearMethods they have created a Web Service language called water that uses ConciseXML. ConsiseXML “is a language-independent markup syntax compatible with XML 1.0″. It has come about because of a dissatisfaction with XML. I downloaded the Steam IDE program and documents. So we’ll see how it goes.
A while back I found a site with a program called au to set up a personal email server that also works over Rendezvous. It’s good but what is great no matter what network I’m on as long as I have access to the internet I can send mail or send and recieve mail over the network only.
It’s interesting but the main thing is I have my own personal SMTP. Now all I have to get is a static IP for a machine that stays at home so that I do not have to pay for a website on another system. If anyone reads this look into it and tell me what you think of au.
I spent most of last night reading the comments given for an article that SlashDot.org posted last night. I found it after I see an article about how SCO is trying to get current Linux users to purchase a licence (UnixWare) for the snippet of code that is in one of the core Kernals. (another article that was posted today)
It is disturbing and hartening all at the same time. Disturbing by way of SCO’s actions to soe Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) in the Linix community and those companies that use Linix or develop for it. And Hartening in that most of the Linix community (the guys/gals that are developing the open source) seem just pissed off, wanting only to know what the offending code is so they can cut it out of the Kernal that it’s in. Which of cource SCO is not saying what it is (i.e. FUD).
Then I see this article talking about how a SCO employee in the past was responsible for the offending code. True or Not this is a quagmire that I do not think the Linix community will extrcate itself from any time soon.
After all that, I wonder what Macromedia will do with Cold Fusion and how this will affect any of the CF programers out there. Also, I could not find anything out there, so… I’m a mac guy but hey I feel for the Linux Community and Open Source in general.
Well Macromedia is having it’s yearly conference. I look forward to seeing if I can go. I saw a referance to this on An Architect’s View. One can only hope.
Well I have found myself on “blo.gs” this blog world is interesting. And what is worse I am continually getting sucked in.
Well I’m also on Weblogs.com. cool! heh
