As I continue to deal with having to become a kind of parent to my mom, I’m saddened and scared. It is at this time that I’m also encouraged by some of the writing in The New York Times of late, essays from folks coming to grips with other brutal issues with grace-burial of a loved one’s ashes, a musician writing an album as he faces his final months ravaged by lung cancer, a guidance counselor dealing with a singular encounter with a student that was murdered, and how she impacted that child’s life. I continue to be moved by the power of non-fiction, that offers the greatest stories of all. Now to hone the craft of writing without letting my pen bleed.
