After being here for well over 4 years I have finaly been noticed. I had done some Ajax research and I wanted it in a place that I could get to it where ever I was. So I placed it up on my website here. To my amazement it has been noticed.
It all started with Leland Scott including me in the list of sites he used in his research. Then moved on to otherauthors talking about his article. My view on this is that it is interesting where Web 2.0 is going. I say that it is what terminals were ment to be. With the ability to truely leveradge the modern design of applications today on a distributed network. No longer will you have to buy a whole sweet of to run on all the computers in your office. You will now be able to purchase access to them on a monthly basis or per use OR just a server to hook up to your network with the web application you want on it. The one Web2.0/Ajax application that has captured the number one spot my most used website list is GMAIL. The prime example that always comes to mind when thinking on this subject. It’s nothing special. The application is not earth sharttering but it works perfectly and I use it every day.
So thank you all and I hope that what I have made to help me has helped you.
In thinking OOP these days and going back and forth with PHP and ColdFusion and Web Design I ran across Chris J. Davis’s tutorial about this very subject. I found it easy to follow with a few insights into OOP in PHP to boot. But since I am a CF guy all of that can easily be translated to CF with no problem. I might take a crack at it.
edit: updated the link tot he article I talked about.
What does this mean? Well I have used it and it is a IM client for the browser. Like AIM and Adium. You can open a browser and have access to a buddy list and chat windows. All created through javascript. It really is interesting how javascript has evolved over the last couple of years and the things that you are capable of now.
Andy Jarrett found this great link to a italian (well I think they just used “.it” because it’s the word “it”) website called DontClick.It. A fasinating look into user interface design and the fundamental preconseptions we have about it. The author of the site examines the clicking of the mouse and are there any alternatives. The clever way that he has circumvented the click is very interesting. The user interface that he has come up with is actually very intuitive and I found that I could navigate and use the site without clicking pretty quickly.
I would recomend visiting the site and finding out for yourself what can be done to get around having to click.
As I do every day I browse the web looking for aticles and blog entries to improve my understanding of Cold Fusion and User Interface Design. Today I ran across and article by Philipp Lenssen called Why Good Programmers Are Lazy and Dumb.
He talks about how a lazy programmer will look to make tools to do things for him. And in the end those tools will improve his productivity and in seeking to make that tool it will in essence give him new skills. This is a small look into what he is talking about. I have not mentioned the dumb aspect, which I think you will also find interesting.
On a side note I saw a couple of comments that missed the point. You should look at the meaning of what Philipp is trying to say reather then the words he chose to use.
I have been floating around the webverse and I cam across Seth Godin talking about the persistance of bad ideas. He made a great comment about drop-down lists of states, countries, what have you and how useless this use of drop-downs are. I agree but I have also been a perpitrator fo this mis-use of the drop-down. I say take a look at this little gem of a blog entry.
Well this is the first design that actually matches the name of my site. I hope you enjoy it. But I have no Idea because those of you that visit my site don’t leave any comments. … heh damn now I patheticly begging for it. sigh
I used a pattern that I got from Squid Fingers. Also the design was adapted from Aubergine Machine on Alex King’s website.
I have been on a quest of late to master CSS and in my daily hunt for better and better information I ran across this article put out by w3.org. which then led me to this document. A treasure of information that I should of had in my bookmarks. it’s a straight forward syntax definition doc but for some reason I over-looked it before.
I am finding that I never know enough. Hope that keeps up.
well I have been doing some looking around and find that CSS2.1 is not been released. Over at Hixie’s Natural Log I for some very good links to the pertinent information about CSS2.1.
I have been going crazy all weekend brushing up my knowledge of CSS and I have gotten the design of this blog the way I want it.the positioning was a bitch and they did nto work the way I wanted them to but in the end it worked out well.
I still not satisfied so expect to see more changes here.
