heart ache

This article make my heart ache. I read it and see that I do not work for an organization that understands what Joel Spolsky talks about in his article The Development Abstraction Layer. I hope to one day work in a development shop like that. So if you want to know what I am talking about take a look at that article.

*sigh*

Writing a Functional Specification

This is a topic that I really have to bone up on. I have shied away from this subject too often. Kevin McCabe mentioned it on his blog and I ran with it. Both articles that he points out are great and I learned a bunch. Writing a functional spec is something that I can talk about at length but need to actually do. :)

<rant> OK this pisses me off. people start a blog and say not a single thing about who the heck they are! I had to do a WHOIS to get Kevin’s name. hehe man please please at least make a simple pagelet and put some basic info about yourself in it with at least your name. :P </rant>

Apple’s Mac and Microsoft’s OS

What could have been done to push Apple to be as large and as powerful as Microsoft? Not very much and that little bit would not of been done by the revolutionary thinkers that Apple had at the time. I agree with what John Gruber said in his article The Art of the Parlay, Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying About Platform Licensing and Market Share. Take a look think about it, there are some lessons there that can be used as a regular working stiff, developer or otherwise.

Bloging and the Perception of IT

i was reading this article about Microsoft and it’s push toward corporate bloging. It is a fascinating example of the use that the corporate world is now putting bloging technology to. It’s advertising but in the online culture of today a much more acceptable one.

That being said I think that it would do IT departments good to have some members of the staff to have blogs on their intranet sites to soften the image of IT. The same can be said of the executives of that same organization. These blogs do not have to be publicly available hence reducing some of the fear factor talked about in the Microsoft bloging article. This way corporate bloging can more easyly be introduced to your company, my company.

Wireless! Watch out Phone Companies!

What! Two entries in one day?! yup! heh … Well some times I see glimpses of the excitement that I had in the DotCom days. Voice Over IP is an up and comer in the tech market and after reading this article I got a glimpse once again but alas I am still a Web Guy. But you should take a gander it’s a good read, a little bit too techie but still readable for the layman.

Stress and stuff

Work really pissed me off last week. I was so angry that I still have a krick in my neck today. A bunch of things came together for me in my mind about things going on in the office. And, I guess I’m still angry.
