My new favorite Ruby project is Resque, due to a tip that I had gotten from a colleague in the NYC Ruby scene. At Stylesight are going to use it in one of our back-end systems that we use to populate our image library. Yes image library. So you can imaging the CPU abuse we put our machines to when processing 5000 images, that turn into 25 to 30,000 images, in a week’s time. Cloud computing is the way to go. Resque will help us with that.
We were researching Nanite as I have mentioned in the past. And our progress with that that was working out. But we were int eh process of making a lot of what Resque already does out of the box. That type of time savings is the awesome.
So in the coming week I will be going over how we use it and the issues that we ran into. I see a potential for an issue in setting up Redis but that does not really raise a red flag exactly.
Wish me luck! :)
